Sunset at Chichiriviche de la Costa

For a break from the beach weekend near Caracas but without crowds, consider Chichiriviche Coast. It is in a bay with clean and smooth waves, tourism services (lodging options, restaurants, diving and sale / lease of equipment, and walking tours and boat for something else).

Like most isolated coastal villages, has a beach party with tourist developments and is more in where are the family houses, the square with its church, a traditional house converted into a clinic near the school &

From the road, just before arriving, due to the height of the road cut into the mountainside, is a beautiful view of the bay with fishing boats and the beach surrounded by vacation homes and a Posadita, simple restaurants and other tourism services.

It is important to know that almost any service on the beach is open on weekdays. When I visited, in full school holiday, ever waited for a Thursday was almost all closed! I prefer to visit tourist sites during the week and out of peak season, to avoid queues strong, many visitors, all occupied housing and higher prices.

However, many people treat their "tourist" as a hobby, working on weekends or superhigh seasons as they have another job during the week or the excuse of "no movement during the week." If no services, how they expect people will go to your destination? If service, quality and innovations that give tourists a reason to go, they'll have customers!

SLEEP AND EAT The best alternative is Hotel-Restaurant El Montero (I recommend rsvnes.: 0212-311.1751, 0412-964.1200), the first property located in the village. Because of its location, is quiet and within the complex have everything you need to stay, relax (and lower prices to other sites that have half of the services or the environment!), And is open every day with the personalized by the owners, Bruno and Lisbeth Sponsel, who live there.

It occupies a large plot at various levels (means that there are stairs everywhere, not suitable for people with problems in handling these constraints), with beautiful gardens, restaurant and pool within a walled complex plus a private parking in front.

The lodge has 16 comfortable rooms (including two new satellite TV / individual decoders. They have asked the connection for more than six quarters, with the expectation of having it as of 26.08.2009).

Also, features a spacious cabin for 5 persons (one very large apartment with two single beds, table and chairs separate from the kitchen by a bar room, a separate room with double bed and individual, and a terrace with barbecue). All with bath / hot water, air, ceiling fan, terrace or balcony. Behind the restaurant / tavern and a separate social hall with TVsatelital is the pool.

When I visited the site on 7/30/1909, had just installed the shower doors, a power plant and point of sale debit card. It is the national headquarters for the training of PADI diving instructors. In fact, they added a room (for 30 to air bath) to have a space more suitable as a "classroom" for these courses (also rented for meetings and events). You can arrange tours, diving and snorkeling.

The basic plan for rooms include breakfast and dinner (choose what you want from the restaurant menu, except lobster) to 170 F Bs normal, with satellite TV Bs F 190 per person. The price of the cabin (Bs F 400) is for accommodation, but can arrange optional meal plans.

The restaurant / tavern is open to the public from noon) is the best in town, with a broad menu and food very tasty. Options include fresh fish grilled with German-style fried potatoes and salad - F 42 B, chicken breast with lemon or mustard with its surroundings - Bs F 32, F-Bs sauteed prawns 57, whole lobster (selected by customer of a tank where they live) - Bs F 150 a kilo, and are famous for their homemade desserts such as ice cream (banana, orange, brownie & Bs F 15 for 3 servings) and lemon pie - F B 10.

Posada La Quilla (for rsvnes.: 0212-312.1234, 0212-945.0541) is in the second row of houses (entrance next to the GN) from the beach with a passage between the houses that allows direct access to the sea. It has no name outside, but it is unmistakable, all the walls are decorated with palm trees and fish designs in relief in stone.

It has beautiful gardens, various social parlors (one with satellite TV), a dining hut type and 9 comfortable rooms (with bath / hot water, air 8) including one suite (king bed and hammock in one part and another section individual duplexes, small refrigerator, satellite TV), a family unit for six, and are building more than three quarters.

Aimed at divers, they provide part of the space to store equipment outside showers to wash off the sand. It's a family atmosphere where the owners live on site. Optional excursions can be arranged. The plan includes (set menu) breakfast and one main meal (lunch or dinner at customer's choice) to Bs F 180 p / p.

Posada-Restaurant La Playa (for rsvnes: 0212-258.3314), 40 m from the beach out to the right of the GN, opens Friday at 4:00 pm to Sunday at 11:00 p.m. Currently operated by the same people in Scuba Tec (see below) and they give preference to customers of the courses, if available, offer lodging to the general public. There are 14 single rooms on two floors above the restaurant (with bath / cold water, central air) and a balcony to the front on the first floor with deck (Bs F 160 pp with breakfast and dinner). One problem is its location identified by locals as the "hot corner" where, at night, is the meeting place for drinking and listening to music at full volume.

DIVING New and better stocked in the village is Suba Tec Dive Center (0212-395.3300; www.scubatec.com.ve) Helios Olombrada with headquarters in his shop in Caracas (0212-942.1980). Open weekends. It is a diving center where PADI 5 Star IDC offers its clients a space for your diving, the rental service air tanks, nitrox mixes technical dives, diving equipment, guide service and boat rides. There are from diving Discovery Diving "for people without experience who want to try the wonder of the underwater world (with chat, equipment, practice in shallow water and immersion in water of about 12 m on the reef on the east side of the bay - Bs F 380) to a range of courses and dives for people already certified.

OTHER OPTIONS On the coast, 20 minutes in a 4x4 or boat, you can get to a bay of stones Petaquire Cave (known as The Rock of flask) to one side. Inside the cave you can hear the loud sound of the waves will come and sometimes cover their mouths. On the same site, if you follow up the river that flows past come to a cave full of bats twice. Following a 20-minute journey from the village to supply water for the population, the San Mateo, is a natural slide of stone with a hole at the bottom. The owners of the Montero can tell the visitors how to get there and also arranged with trusted guides for tours and transfers by boat.
